So, here it is. My first book from the summer reading list. I was really curious to start reading this one. I  like Coelho’s books because he has always something to say, something serious, he is demanding to speak about the cause, realistic, thoughtful. The same it is with this one.

A girl that realizes how ordinary her life can be if she follows the usual way of thinking and living as all the other people around decides to die by taking sleeping pills. As a protest against the norms, encouraged and disappointed that some people in the world do not even care or know where here country is. This try is unsuccessful for Veronika and she is saved. Later she woke up in psychiatric clinic at Vilette and then she is told she dies because of her weak heart in few days anyway. This is a time for realizing her true self. Her needs, dreams, desires, passions, her true personality. People around Zedka, Mari, Eduard or Dr. Igor are here to enrich the plot about thoughts that are worth of thinking for a while. What is really our life about? Fears? Blindess to realize the true about us? And all of the characters including Veronica discover at the end all the questions placed in the book, placed in their minds.

If anyone takes Coleho’s books challenging, they are for sure. You can read them easily in the afternoon if you want, but I would recommend breaking reading into parts. His words just fill you with many emotions and it is nice to analyze a little bit. At least this is my way of doing stuff.

I know there is already a screen play based on the book.  I’ll watch it someday but now need to take off for a while. If you have not seen it yet I recommend the book first. The plot here was very clear, book easy to read. And as easy were the questions the easy were the answers. Still so many of us have such a hard time to understand.

Have you read this one? How did you like it?

Yesterday I went with M. and E. to an event called Tramp Creativeness. This takes place only once a year and this was already 17th annual event. The goal is to keep alive human connection with nature. Many people from different cities and ‘’Tramp Camps’’ join here not only from Slovakia but from Czech Republic as well.

Although they all live their civil ordinary lives, go to work, church, vacation or restaurants, they once in a while during the summer need to go away from the city rush. Sleep under sky, make fires, sing folk and country songs and what is the most important they honor each other and they honor the nature. Surely they are inspired by American Cowboy and Native Indians life, but still in the past during the communism time in former Czechoslovakia this was the only run away from the desperateness of the politics and missing freedom.  The culture in which these people live is so unique today.

Do not want to say too much I would rather let you keep the atmosphere from the pictures below. Still, just a little words how it all works.

After Welcome Speech there is a place for games for kids and adults, exhibition of handmade stuff and putting awarding points to find the best artist, cooking of food, preparation of Evening Holy Fire. The evening ceremony starts with the award of best game performers, craftsmen and all who contributed to the event. Later the Holy Fire is set up. All has its rules and along the fire there is holy circle of cleanliness. In upcoming few hours there is everything Bad burned and only the Good stays. No one can enter this circle. Meanwhile people play guitars, banjos and other instruments and sing folk and country songs. After each song the other acknowledge the musicians by shouting ‘’ he knows!!!” No hand clapping. When the holy circle is opened the fun begins again. But during the time it is closed, everybody sits quietly, listens to the music and enjoys the peace of the evening.

Have you ever slept only under the sky?

Here it is. My summer book list. Not necessarily the books will be read in the row they are set here. The mood is an unpredictable factor, but the most important to me is that I truly believe I can make it.  I know it is not any special challenge, but under time shortness I feel all the time for me it is.

Haruki Murakami – Norwegian Wood – My second book from this author, he so different …

Stephanie Mayer – The Host – My first book from this author. So we will see. I skipped Twilight series on purpose to make the real picture about this writer

Barbora Kardosova – Sweet in the mouth – Young Slovak author, but I read just a page at a review and it made me so laugh that I believe this will be the best choice for vacation and beach

Paolo Coelho – Veronica decides to die – Do not know any Paolo’s book that would not be worth reading. Do you?

Betty MacDonald – Onions in the Stew – Expectations are that this will be fun

Dan Brown – The Lost Symbol – Everybody read it! Any questions?

Bonus: Sophie’s Choice by William Styron – Never find the right mood since my high school years for this but I think I am grown enough to take from this book what it is supposed to give

Any book you are ready to read???

@Vonnie

So inspirational view

Can I really make it?

Haruki’s book is not on the pile above, could not find it so I substituted it, just to keep the proper count. But I really have it. See? Including my dog paws on the cover 😉

Today morning I felt that I am something missing.  I jumped into my mail box too fast and unintentionally skipped my morning coffee!!!
But then I made up my day with this delicious Mascarpone Cookie with jam. YUMMY…
Sipping the coffee with milk from my coffee cup I bought like a century ago at Niagara Falls trip.
Wish you could have piece….it was DELICIOUS

@Vonnie

What about your breaks?

Dear Readers,

This year is really rich for birthday party events, since many of my friends are turning their anniversaries this year. We love to get together and celebrate, talk, eat, laugh. It was our friend I. turn this time. Moreover it was summer solstice last weekend. Here are some shoots how we enjoyed our time. It is great to have group of 15!!! Good Friends to be here for you…

@Vonnie

How do you celebrations look like?

Summer Cheerries

Sweet Cinamon Rolls I baked

Water in the pool was still chilly but we did not mind

Some of us even fought the alligator in the pool

Sport must be incorporated!!!

And of course we had BBQ sausages…

Sunset was just on time

The READING CORNER will be dedicated to one of my many passions that I actually feel I want to share with you.

I am really sorry to say so, but lately – like last year,  I am not able to manage my time  so I can read more often. You know…have no time, tired, not interested… all the other excuses for not finding few hours a week to hang out with good book to run away from the rush. Although I go to bookstore very often, read book reviews and I am willing to spend my money on books, I am still kind of looser. I do not even go to see a movie when I know there is a book prior to the script…and how it ends? Do not read the book, do not see the film and have no right to contribute in discussion with others.

Since January I purchased like 5 books, and borrowed 3 other from friends. And guess what, I did not start to read any!!!! Why have I done it then? Hm…., maybe I like the idea of having giant library at home one day? Selfish.

Thus, when I was at the bookstore with my friend A. today, I made commitment. This summer will be remembered as the one when I read all the books I said I will. And I will!!!

So in my next post I will introduce you books that I can’t wait to start reading for long time.

And this is my imaginary sofa in my reading corner.

or this?

How  is it with you and reading? Any time for reading books?

@Vonnie

So, I was at my best friends wedding this weekend, though this was not a very typical wedding you would expect.  Despite the fact it carried all the signs of regular wedding party it turned out to be somehow differently unforgettable.

Let me say firstly, that I met J. first time about 4 years ago, and we got to know each other via chatting room on the net.  It is funny how an unknown person can suddenly mean so much to you. We were both single at that time and you know how it goes. Broken hearted can support each other the best way. After few years he finally crashed into love with a lovely, smart, beautiful girl. Not laying, I swear she is all that. I have to say that Z. is great person, exactly the one I would ever imagine for him. So at the end you see that we can live our fairytales.

But, back to the main event – THE WEDDING. Simply beautiful. There can not be anything better then hot and I mean really HOT, and sunny June Saturday. The ceremony went really well. The restaurant prepared really delicious menu, people were having fun and the whole wedding took place outside.

And why is this unforgettable? There came a storm later in the evening, since it was really hot last few days. This was not anything we would not expect but around midnight the rain was still pouring and finally electricity went off in the whole area. It went on again 3 hours later!!!  I have to admit that little bit of disappointment occurred among few guests, but there was far more support from the majority of them. The music played from the car that someone pulled out from the lot closer to the tent, and we were dancing covered in the candle light. Such a romance and so much love everywhere.

What else can I say? Thank you!

Oh yes, and I felt in love several more times.

@Vonnie

I felt in love with the decorations

I felt in love with cold pink wine with strawberries

And the wedding cake was just amazing as the rest of the food

My red camaraderie’s liked the event as well  and the storm released us from hot

The candle light was just amazing

What do you like on the weddings the best?
